Doom popularized FPS's, Quake made multi player cooler but Half Life set the bar. Half Life 1 is one of the best FPS of all time and when the second installment came out, it has only gotten better.
Other than having sweet guns, cool settings and amazing graphics, it gives gamers an experience they won't soon forget.
The game has strong physics into the game, knocking and destroying almost everything in sight. And what fun it is using the "gravity gun" to chuck an array of things like saws and barrels at enemies.
I really enjoyed the weapons. It has the typical ones and some unique ones as well. But the way it was designed, it was so much fun to fire them. The sound and the impact it makes is really satisfying. You know what I'm talking about when using the shotgun at close range.
A lot were disappointed on the fact that Half Life 2 offers no multi player whatsoever but it makes up by a having a good and long single-player mode. Again, like HL 1, the actual story and plot to the game is not enriched with detail, it has more than the first game but basically Gordon Freemen is running around, not really knowing where, but just moving place to place.
It is not the story that we love but the game play. It offers more than shooting guns like in Halo, you must solve mini puzzles get continue on your path like counter-balancing ramps to get your vehicle across or using a crane to move the vehicle onto the dock.
The settings are nice (Ravenholm) and make it a lot cooler than it already is. The enemies, the monsters and humans, are both fun and challenging to kill (I played it on a hard difficulty).
If you like FPSs, then you must like Half Life 2 as it is one of the best games around.
